Basic Qualifications:
Must have electric utility or electric manufacture experience with an emphasis on power systems.
Core Competencies:
- Bachelor Degree in engineering, business, or related technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

- Typically possesses five or more years of experience in research, power systems technologies and engineering.

COMMENTS: Additional testing may be required as part of the selection process for this position. This job will be relocated to Westminster. NERC/CIP (North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection). This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gainingun-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.

Typical Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of major research and development projects each requiring laboratory testing, field pilot tests, apparatus evaluations and establishing training criteria needed for the new technologies and for developing the technologies to be included in Southern California Edison (SCE) apparatus standards. Typical responsibilities will include: leading several diverse and specialized disciplines including Managers, Project Consulting Engineers, senior Engineers, Engineers and Technical Specialists in the successful competition, development and deployment of smart grid and transmission and substation technologies; insuring compliance with the CPUC OIR rulemaking decision when developing and deploying smart grid technologies; setting policies and strategies for a large portfolio of major projects; developing strategies, direct supporting analyses, and delivering white papers and presentations to executive levels that impact senior level decisions on significant strategic and policy issues; building strategic plans used to accomplish large-scale multi-year projects and programs; managing and directing important groups/teams solving problems using integrated strategies that are crucial to the performance of our core regulated business; increasing organizational and planning responsibilities as the team grows and adapts to the new challenges imposed by the explosive growth in the legislative and regulatory interest in smart grid technology projects; promoting change in operations, design, engineering and policies to meet aggressive smart grid regulatory and legislative goals that will insure we meet our renewable energy portfolio standards, green house gas reduction goals; supervising the development of relationships/ interactions with other utilities, FERC, CPUC, CEC, and DOE as required; working across department boundaries to determine and arrange the most beneficial solutions to business issues facing the company; approving or recommending department level policies regarding the management of multi-million dollar projects, regulatory and legal strategies associated with smart grid capital investments;overseeing the preparation of certain testimony and work papers and may be a witness in these proceedings; developing long-term execution plans, long-term advanced project prioritization and planning, and resource planning; performing negotiations as required with contractors, other SCE departments, utilities and regulatory agencies on behalf of smart grid projects; developing feedback reports for management and assessing/mitigating risks, including monitoring state, local, and federal legislative and regulatory actions and assessing the effect on business planning, and project completion, developing systems to track issues and identify trends; reporting to executives and reviewing and preparing materials to be presented to the most senior levels of the company; providing strategic direction for work to be performed and desired results; selecting staff and managing employee performance and development by conducting performance planning and reviews, coaching employees, and carrying out disciplinary action when necessary; developing and implementing suitable performance indicators for the organization; recommending and/or approving departmental/organizational policies and procedures; assisting in the development of corporate policies and procedures; developing business plans, objectives, and initiatives for the organization in alignment with business strategy and customer requirements; assisting in the development of initiatives for corporate strategic plans and objectives; and performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
