We seek a qualified individual to serve as a Climate Change Safeguards Coordinator. This position achieves conservation victories by educating, engaging and organizing wildlife enthusiasts, conservation leaders and other key constituencies around NWF’s Northeast Regional Center’s Climate Change Safeguards Campaign.

Specifically, the Climate Change Safeguards Coordinator will focus on the following priorities:
1) Organizing a diverse northeast climate change safeguards network, including organizing a series of safeguarding workshops and conferences to bring together NGOs with government agencies.

2) Maintain the regional offices general website and a new regional safeguarding website, including content for the site and activists identified by the site; and

3) Developing partnerships with state and regional officials to work collaboratively to ensure wildlife survive the effects of global warming.

The SOC will report to the Senior Manager for Climate Change Safeguards, while being an integral part of a larger team that includes local affiliate leaders, regional and national staff.

Qualified individuals must have a four year college degree in environmental policy or related topics and a minimum of five years of organizing or outreach experience with a minimum of three years experience in conservation policy or advocacy.

Position Summary

The Climate Trust is seeking an individual with carbon market experience to manage the contracts that make up its growing greenhouse gas offset project portfolio. The Offset Portfolio Associate is responsible for overseeing the performance of the Trust’s diverse offset project portfolio as well as assisting in other program areas. The Climate Trust, a non-profit based in Portland, OR, is a national leader in the development and promotion of high quality greenhouse gas offset projects (www.climatetrust.org). This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative climate change solutions in a highly collaborative, congenial, and energetic atmosphere.

Responsibilities

Contract Management
• Facilitate and ensure contractual compliance of offset projects in the portfolio.
• Maintain relations with project developers under contract.
• Assist with the development of monitoring and verification plans.
• Assist with the identification of technical experts and third party verifiers.
• Track and report on portfolio performance.
• Track delivery of greenhouse gas reductions and maintain offset registry.
• Ensure The Climate Trust’s offset portfolio reflects the latest high-quality standards in the offset market.

Other
• Assist with The Climate Trust’s ongoing offset project acquisition activities.
• Track and develop a working understanding of current and emerging carbon offset methodologies.
• Assist with new methodology development.
• Support the Trust’s other activities in their voluntary and regulatory offset programmatic work.

Qualifications

Required
• Bachelors degree in environmental sciences/studies, economics, or other relevant discipline.
• Two years relevant work experience.
• Strong analytical, quantitative and writing skills.
• Candidate must exhibit the following characteristics:
- Organized.
- Meticulous.
- Motivated.
•Good interpersonal skills.

Preferred
• Masters degree in relevant discipline.
• Forest management experience.
• Knowledge of carbon markets.
• High computer literacy (Word, Excel, etc.)

Compensation

Starting salary range is $30,000 - $35,000, depending on experience. The Climate Trust offers a highly competitive benefits package, including a “cafeteria†medical, dental and vision plan; three weeks vacation; flexible work hours; a 401K plan; and a bus/bike incentive program.
